The Defence Space Administration Officers Wives Association (DSAOWA) recently held a seminar to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) with the theme “Accelerate Action.” The event took place at the Gen LEO Irabor Hall of the Defence Space Administration and provided a platform for discussions on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and personal well-being.
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8th, highlights the ongoing fight for gender equality and the empowerment of women. It brings attention to critical issues such as gender equity, reproductive rights, and the prevention of violence and abuse against women.

In her opening remarks, DSAOWA Coordinator, Mrs. Rukayat Olajumoke Oluwatoyin, introduced the theme “Accelerate Action” and emphasized the need for women to take proactive steps in driving positive change. She encouraged participants to embrace swift and strategic actions to make meaningful progress in both their personal and professional lives.
The first guest speaker, Mrs. Faith Iyahen, delivered a presentation titled “Women as Change Makers: Accelerating Action for a Better Future.” She underscored the importance of challenging gender inequality, overcoming societal barriers, and fostering leadership among women. She further encouraged women to address gender bias, raise children with a mindset of gender equity, support one another, and actively work towards increasing women’s visibility in society.
The second speaker, Mrs. Frances Ndu, presented on “Self-Care as the Foundation of Good Living.” She highlighted the significance of consistent self-care habits for overall well-being and urged women to prioritize their health and personal development as a crucial aspect of empowerment.

The seminar concluded with an interactive session, where participants engaged with the speakers, seeking clarification and discussing strategies for implementing the insights shared.
To wrap up the event, the DSAOWA Coordinator presented tokens of appreciation to the guest speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions.
By hosting this seminar, DSAOWA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and encouraging proactive steps toward gender equality and personal growth.
