The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has sought for collaboration with the Defence Space Administration (DSA), in the area of border monitoring through Geospatial Intelligence sharing to boost surveillance techniques. The Comptroller – General (CG), NIS, Mrs Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju made the appeal recently when she led her team to the office of the Chief of Defence Space Administration.
Adepoju stated that the essence of the visit is to provide opportunity for the NIS and the Administration to build the necessary relationships and networks that could pave way for better cooperation. Additionally, due to Nigeria’s complex nature of border environment, ensuring effective border security and management is indeed necessary to prevent and counter the flow of suspected terrorists, bandits and hoodlums.
The Chief of Defence Space Administratio (CDSA), Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Abdullahi Shinkafi while responding, commended the CG of NIS, Wura-Ola Adepoju saying, “I salute your courage and resolve, this shows how committed you are to save this nation from the menace of cross-border movement of illicit cargo which include; drugs, weapons, arms and ammunition that may be used for terrorist purposes”.
AVM Shinkafi further stated that this could be solved through partnership and collaboration between the NIS and the Administration. The CDSA assured the CG and her team of DSA’s support towards the safety of Nigeria’s borders.
