The Defence Space Administration (DSA) successfully held the September edition of its Monthly Lecture Series on Thursday, 25th September 2025, at the General Irabor Multipurpose Hall. The event was hosted by the Directorate of Navigation, Positioning and Timing (DNPT), drawing attendance from officers, engineers, and specialists across the Defence Space community.
This month’s lecture was themed “Quantum Navigation Application in Global Navigation System Denied Environments for Enhanced Military Operations.” Delivering the opening address, the Director of Navigation, positioning and Timing, Rear Admiral GE Kwetishe, underscored the significance of quantum navigation in modern warfare. He noted that while the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) remains crucial, quantum technologies offer resilient alternatives in GNSS-denied environments.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr Gabriel Nkwa from the host directorate. In his lecture, he described quantum navigation as “nature at its smallest scale,” explaining how technologies such as atom interferometers and quantum gyroscopes are revolutionizing navigational accuracy, particularly in areas where GNSS signals are compromised or unavailable.

An engaging interactive session followed the presentation, moderated by Lieutenant (NN) SA Abdullahi. The panel featured Mr Akawu Biliyok, Mr Umosen Donatus, and Mr Gabriel Nkwa, who addressed questions from participants, offering deeper insights into the operational and technical implications of quantum navigation for defence applications.

Representing the Chief of Defence Space Administration, Air Vice Marshal MA Suleiman delivered the closing remarks. He emphasized the importance of cyber preparedness as an essential pillar of national defence, especially in safeguarding military operations in the digital and space domains.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Engr Adaeze U Anabude of the host directorate. A group photograph captured the highlights of the day and marked the end of yet another successful session in the DSA’s Monthly Lecture Series.
