AI-Enhanced GNSS in Military Operations

The Directorate of Navigation, Position, and Timing hosted the March edition of the Defence Space Administration’s (DSA) monthly lecture series, featuring the topic: “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence in Global Navigation Satellite Systems to Enhance Military Operations in Nigeria.”

In his opening remarks, the Director of Navigation, Position, and Timing, RAdm OBF Oladipo, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in military operations, noting that its integration with Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) could provide the Armed Forces with a strategic advantage in combating terrorism.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Mr. Godson Sado, a Senior Engineer from the host directorate, who provided an in-depth analysis of AI-powered GNSS, its challenges, and its implications for military strategy and operations.

Following the presentation, an interactive session was moderated by Lt. (NN) AM Salihu, featuring Mr. MG Ibrahim, Mr. Yusuf Abdulghaniyu, and Mr. Godson Sado as panellists. They addressed participants’ questions and clarified key points raised during the lecture.

In his remarks, the Deputy Chief of Defence Space Administration, RAdm K Mohammed, commended the host directorate for the well-researched and insightful presentation. Similarly, the Chief of Defence Space Administration, AVM LI Oluwatoyin, acknowledged the growing significance of AI in modern warfare and emphasized the urgency of integrating AI-driven technologies into Nigeria’s military operations.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Maryam Alawode, who expressed sincere appreciation to all participants for their engagement and contributions.
