The Defence Space Administration (DSA) has renewed its call for accelerated action toward developing Nigeria’s indigenous rocket engineering capacity. This came during the November edition of the DSA Monthly Lecture Series held on Thursday, 27th November 2025, at the organisation’s headquarters.

The lecture, themed “Indigenous Rocket Engineering Capability as a Catalyst for Defence Technology and Security Advancement: The DSA in Perspective,” brought together senior military officers, researchers, scientists and technical experts to assess the nation’s progress and challenges in homegrown rocket technology.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Director of the Directorate of Launch Services and Space Operations (DLSO), Brig Gen ID Oloyede, stated that building local rocket capability has become a strategic imperative for national defence. He outlined ongoing research efforts and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s rocket development programmes.

This was followed by an interactive session which provided further insights into the prospects of indigenous rocketry. A special guest speaker, Group Captain MK Ogunsan, underscored the urgent need for Nigeria to standardize and certify its rocket research and development processes in line with global benchmarks.

Delivering the closing remarks, the Chief of Defence Space Administration, Maj Gen PO Ilodibia, reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to advancing indigenous rocket engineering through adherence to international best practices.
