Participants of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Leadership and Strategic Course 4/2025, on 22 January 2025, paid an official visit to the Defence Space Administration (DSA) as part of their course programme aimed at enhancing understanding of modern space operations and their relevance to national security.
The visit was designed to bridge classroom instruction with practical exposure, providing participants with first-hand insight into both on-site and off-site space operations conducted by the DSA. The engagement highlighted the critical role of space systems in supporting military operations and broader national security objectives.
Leading the delegation, Major General AA Tarfa (Rtd) emphasized the growing importance of technology and space capabilities in contemporary military operations, noting that space-based assets have become indispensable in modern defence strategies.
The programme commenced with a comprehensive briefing on the roles and activities of the Defence Space Administration, delivered by Lieutenant Commander ZB Maigida of the Directorate of Policy, Plans, and Research. This was followed by a guided tour of the facility, during which participants were shown key equipment used for satellite data processing and secure communications.
An interactive question-and-answer session was later held, led by Commander GA Oladesu. Participants engaged actively, seeking clarity on how space systems enhance military effectiveness. Detailed responses were provided by subject-matter experts, including Commodore EO Iduh, Director of Earth Observation, and Engineer Salisu of the Directorate of Navigation, Positioning, and Timing (DNPT).
The visit concluded with closing remarks delivered by the Deputy Chief of Defence Space Administration on behalf of the Chief of Defence Space Administration. Colonel F. Isu gave the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the DSA for the valuable knowledge shared and the warm reception accorded to the delegation.
