To advance the nation’s military technological capabilities, the Nigerian Air Force Research and Development Institute (AFRDI) has unveiled a specialized training program on AI-Enabled Autonomous Systems and AI-Based Data Analytics tailored for the Defence Space Administration (DSA).

The intensive three-week course in Nigerian Air Force Research and Development Institute (AFRDI) Osogbo , is scheduled to run from June 16 to July 4, 2025, aims to equip ten selected DSA staff with advanced skills in artificial intelligence, autonomous system design, and space data analytics. This initiative aligns with global defence trends, where artificial intelligence is increasingly at the heart of battlefield intelligence, threat detection, and space surveillance operations.

According to the AFRDI proposal, the course offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge with hands on practicals, including live hardware implementation projects. Key areas of focus include machine learning, computer vision, neural networks, autonomous vehicle programming, and real time data processing. Participants will gain expertise in AI driven surveillance tools and earth observation systems, such as those used in reconnaissance and mission planning.

In his remarks, the course coordinator, Air Commodore AA Adebomehin stated that “The future of defence is automated, intelligent, and data driven, and this program ensures that Nigeria is not left behind in the AI revolution shaping global military operations.”
