Nigeria Partners with UN to Advance Global Space Weather Research

The United Nations, in partnership with Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the Defence Space Administration (DSA), has kicked off a five-day workshop on the International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) at the DSA headquarters in Abuja.

The workshop that will run from 6-10 Oct 25, aims to deepen international collaboration in space weather research and the development of related technologies. It draws experts and participants from across the globe, including the United States, China, Japan, Nigeria, and several other countries.

The opening ceremony featured keynote remarks from Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology; Dr Matthew Adepoju, Director General of NASRDA, Chief of Defence Space Administration, and representatives from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and NASA.

The event highlights Nigeria’s strategic role in fostering global scientific cooperation and advancing space science and technology for sustainable development. A group photograph was taken to commemorate the opening session.
