The Directorate of Earth Observation hosted the April edition of the Defence Space Administration (DSA) monthly lecture series with the topic: “The Contributions of Women to the Development of Space Science and Technology” on Thursday 24th April 2025 at the Irabor Hall.

In his opening remarks, the Director of Earth Observation, AVM AA Sule dedicated the lecture to the women around the world to celebrate the International Women’s Day 2025. He stressed that women should be encouraged and mentored to go into space.

The in-depth presentation was delivered by Miss Victoria Ugorji and Miss Hadiza Aliyu both from the host directorate, they spoke on the impressive contributions of women in Space Science and Technology (SST), as well as the social and traditional challenges women encounter which limits them to pursue a career in SST.



The presentation progressed into an interactive session moderated by Miss Fatima Lawal; other members of the panel are
- Engr Ogechi Okorafor from National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA),
- Engr Chidinma Iroka
- Miss Victoria Ugorji
They gave insights to the participants’ questions and cleared grey areas.





At the climax of the event, the Deputy Chief of Defence Space Administration (DCDSA), RAdm K Mohammed commended the host directorate for a lecture thoroughly researched and well presented. He noted that women’s contribution to SST is truly remarkable and the administration will never cease to support women in their professional career.


The event came to an end with a vote of thanks delivered by Miss Eke Chinwe who expressed profound gratitude to the participants on behalf of her directorate.
