DEFENCE SPACE ADMINISTRATION HOSTS CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS TALK

The Directorate of Cyber Security of the Defence Space Administration (DSA) held a Cybersecurity Awareness Talk on Friday, 31st October 2025, at Gen LEO Irabor Hall to commemorate the International Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The event brought together officers and staff to enhance understanding of digital safety and promote responsible online practices.

In his opening remarks, Rear Admiral IU Ubani, Director of Cybersecurity, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of cybersecurity awareness in an increasingly connected world. He cautioned that anyone with an internet-enabled device is susceptible to cyber threats and urged attendees to apply the knowledge gained to safeguard both personal and organizational data.

The keynote presentation, delivered by Mr Giwa Faisal of the Directorate of Cybersecurity, was titled “Securing Our Digital Platforms: A Practical Guide to Mobile and Social Media Security.” He discussed the evolution of smartphones, the growing influence of social media, and the associated risks. Mr Faisal explained the concept of digital footprints and the value of personal data, highlighting how it can be exploited for malicious purposes.

He also outlined common threats targeting mobile devices and social media platforms, offering practical tips such as using strong, unique passwords, employing password managers, and avoiding password reuse. His presentation encouraged participants to adopt safer online habits and take proactive steps to protect their digital identities.

An interactive session followed, allowing participants to engage with cybersecurity experts and gain deeper insights into key issues. Rear Admiral Ubani closed the event with a vote of thanks, appreciating the active participation and reaffirming DSA’s commitment to promoting cybersecurity awareness and strengthening the agency’s overall cyber resilience.
